The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, is to receive the “Defender of the Faithful” award from a leading Islamic group.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), a defender of Islamic and Muslims rights, in a letter signed by its Chairman, Award Planning Committe, Dr. Busari Jamiu Mohammadu, and dated July 1, 2023, to the Oluwo, said the award is in recognition of his pivotal role in the propagation of Islam and for openly identifying with Muslims in Yorubaland.
Presentation of the award to the natural and paramount ruler of the Iwoland is scheduled for 10.00am on Sunday 9th July, 2020 at Combo Hall LTV 8, Ikeja Lagos, according to the letter.
The letter partly read: “Considering the pivotal role you have been playing as an outspoken Muslim Traditional Ruler who openly and boldly identifies with Islam in Yorubaland, the Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC) has found you eminently worthy of the award of “DEFENDER OF THE FAITHFUL.”
In response to the letter, the Oluwo expressed appreciation to the Islamic body for considering him for the honour.
Oba Akanbi said the award has posed more challenge for him to propagate further the “oneness of Olodumare (Allah).”
