A Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, Lagos on Wednesday ordered that a teenager, Abubakar Ahmed, be remanded in Kirikiri Custodial Centre, Lagos State, over an alleged killing of his 13-year old friend identified as Ekenedirichukwu.
The 18-year old defendant was dragged before the court presided over by Magistrate Patrick Nwaka on a one-count charge of murder after he was accused of stabbing the deceased to death with a knife in Ijora-Badia area of the state.
The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the defendant committed the offence around 9.00am on May 28, 2023.
He further told the court that the defendant used a knife to stab the deceased in the chest, an offence, which he said contravened Section 222 and was punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
According to the charge. sheet: “That you, Abubakar Ahmed, on May 28, 2023, around 9am at Ijora-Badia, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Ekenedirichukwu, 13, by stabbing him with a knife in the chest and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
Meanwhile, the defendant’s plea was not taken.
The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
Magistrate Nwaka, after confirming that the defendant was already 18-year old, granted the request of the prosecutor and remanded the defendant to the Kirikiri Custodial Centre pending legal advice from the DPP.
He adjourned the case till July 19, 2023.
