Kidnappers have killed an Abuja-based surveyor, Mr Alamu Samsideen Abayomi, despite receiving N2.3 million ransom from his family.
The deceased, an Assistant Chief Surveyor, at the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, was kidnapped with his mother, Alhaja Afusat Alamu, and son, Abdulhaq Alamu, while traveling on Abuja-Lokoja Highway.
The deceased’s mother, who gave an account of the incident, said the gunmen attacked them last week around 9:30pm at the Yakwo Farms Sharp bend, a kilometre away from the Army checkpoint, near Abaji.
According to her, they were travelling from Iwo in Osun State in his son’s Toyota Corolla marked RSH 661NY going to Abuja when gunmen suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the vehicle.
She said: “The gunmen suddenly came out of the bush and shot at our front tyres and this forced son, who was driving, to stop.
“The gunmen after that at gun point then whisked us away into the bush. It was when the kidnappers took us to their camp after trekking for more than eight kilometres before they now asked us to communicate with whoever we can to raise N50m ransom.
“The gunmen maltreated me and my son until I was able to reach out to some relatives and my son’s colleagues in Abuja, after which a sum of N2,350,000 was raised.
“My son was shot dead on Thursday. The gunmen claimed that he attempted to fight them at their den.
“Now I am in grief as the gunmen are yet to release my son’s corpse. They asked us to come to where we dropped the ransom to claim his corpse but the corpse could not be found at the scene.
“My son’s friends and some other relatives mobilised some people to the scene where the kidnappers collected the ransom to retrieve my son’s corpse, but they went there and they could not find the corpse.
“In fact, I have reported the incident at Abaji police station because that Tuesday night when the incident happened, it was the police from Abaji police division who came and towed the vehicle to their station.
“We are now appealing to the police to come to our aid and assist to recover my son’s corpse from the gunmen.”
