Gunmen have shot dead a police officer at a security checkpoint in Ibagwa-Ani, a community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Also, a patrol vehicle of the security men easy also burnt down by the armed men.
A resident of the area, Ebere Ugwuoke, who confirmed the incident, said it happened on early Friday morning.
He said they heard several and heavy gunshots at a junction, where the security men were stationed, adding that no one could go out immediately it happened to go and verify the situation because they were scared.
He said: “After the gunmen had gone many people gathered at the scene. We didn’t see the gunmen. We only came out and saw a policeman lying dead and a police vehicle burning.”
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the state police command, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident but said the information about the incident was still sketchy.
