Gunmen on Monday attacked six travellers when they opened fire on their vehicle on Ado-Ekiti/Akure Road.
Three of them were reportedly abducted while three others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The men suspected to be kidnappers reportedly ambushed the commercial bus in which the persons were traveling at a bad portion of the road between Ikere-Ekiti and Iju in Ondo State.
Speaking on Tuesday from his hospital bed, where he was receiving treatment from the gunshot wounds, a victim disclosed that the incident happened at about 6.00pm on Monday.
The victim, who would not want his name in print, said: “The gunmen suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on our vehicle. We were six passengers on board travelling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure, Ondo State.
“Three of us escaped from the scene with gunshots wound while the gunmen fook three other passengers into the bush.
”When I closed from the office in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, I boarded a commercial vehicle from Ado to Akure. Between Ikere-Ekiti and Iju, the kidnappers laid an ambush for our vehicle and started shooting at us. I and two others managed to escape but with wounds and others taken away.
“I am at the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti receiving treatment from the wounds I sustained.”
The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident said it was an attempted armed robbery.
He said investigations have commenced to know if any of the travellers was kidnapped by the gunmen while he disclosed that the injured were receiving treatment in the hospital.
