An unidentified couple coming from a vigil has been abducted by gunmen in Osun State.
The couple, travelling on motorcycle were said to have been accosted and abducted by the armed men on early Saturday morning on Osogbo-Iragbiji Road.
Narrating how the victims were abducted, a resident of Kelebe, a community on Osogbo-Iragbiji Road, simply identified as Sanya, told the newsmen that that “the couple were picked up around 4.00 am on Saturday by the gunmen and they were whisked to an unknown location in the forest.
“The couple were believed to be returning from a vigil when they were abducted. The victims on their motorcycle ran into the kidnappers who blocked the road with a log of wood.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, has said that police operatives are already combing the forest to rescue the victims.
She said: “The kidnap has been reported to the police and our men are working very hard to rescue the couple. Operatives are combing the bush in the area and we want to assure the public that the victims will be rescued and the perpetrators of the crime will not escape justice.”
