Police operatives have shot dead two suspected members of an armed robbery gang in Edo State.
The suspected robbers reportedly engaged a police team in a gun battle after robbing a filling station in Benin metropolis on Sunday morning but two of were unlucky and fell for superior fire power of the police.
Edo State Police Command through its spokesperson, Chidi Nwanbor, confirmed the incident, in a statement, saying other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.
According to him, the police received the information that armed robbers were attacking Rubec Oil and Gas Station located off Murtala Mohamed Way, Benin City.
The police spokesman explained that the armed robbers had moved to another location within the town before the police and the local vigilantes got to the scene but said they were trailed and was sighted by the security team, who immediately engaged them in a gun duel.
He said: “In the process, two of the armed robbers were killed and other members escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries. The two suspected dead robbers were taken to the Police Cottage Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.”
