A speeding car driver has taken to his heels after crushing two commercial motorcyclists otherwise known as Okada riders and a female passenger to death in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps through its spokesman, Babatunde Akinbiyi, told the newsmen that the accident happened on Tuesday when a driver of private Ford Mondeo car on top speed lost control and ran over the roundabout at the Agbeloba junction.
According to him, the car coming from Quarry Road crushed the two Okada riders discharging passengers at a bus stop and later crashed into a container shop used for betting at the roundabout.
The TRACE spokesman said: “Okada riders and a female passenger were killed instantly, due to the impact of the collision. But the driver escaped among the crowd who came as sympathisers to the scene.”
He said the victims’ bodies had been taken away by family members, who identified them.
Akinbiyi, who commiserated with families of the victims, warned motorists to avoid excessive speed, particularly while driving within or around major towns.
