Unknown gunmen have beheaded a former lawmaker in Anambra State, Hon. Nelson Achukwu.
Achukwu, a pysically challenged from Nnewi South Local Government and owner of Nelly Oil & Gas Filling Station in Utuh, Anambra State, was kidnapped about three weeks ago before he killed and beheaded by his abductors.
The former lawmaker, who represented Nnewi South 2 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, was first kidnapped some months ago by the gunmen, who accused him of providing information to the military troops about their activities.
The deceased at that time denied the allegation and he was released when they realized he was not guilty.
Three weeks ago, Achukwu, was again kidnapped in from his house in Mkpor community and this time was killed and beheaded after the gunmen had collected N15 million ransom form his family.
The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday afternoon to newsmen, said the body of the former lawmaker was found on Tuesday between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor Communities in the council area.
He said: “His body was found at the back of Ulasi Rivers and was quickly buried by the family on Tuesday evening as the body was already decomposing.
“Efforts were being made to rescue him from his abductors before this unfortunate development.”
He, however, assured that the perpetrators would be found and brought to justice.
