An unidentified correctional officer serving in Goron Dutse Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kano State has been arrested after killing a food vendor through an accidental discharge.
The spokesman of the Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Musbahu Lawan, in a statement on Monday, confirmed the unfortunate incident of accidental discharge, which he said led to the death of a vendor and injuring another person within the vicinity of the custodial center.
He disclosed that the state Controller of Corrections, has ordered that the officer be immediately arrested, adding that a panel had been set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the ugly incident.
He said: “While expressing his condolences to the family members of the deceased, the Controller prayed to God Almighty for the repose of the soul of the departed and speedy recovery of the injured.
“The controller had assured that the case would be duly investigated and appropriate action taken according to the provisions of the law.”
