President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked all Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Custom Service (NSC).
Tinubu in the shake up also announced names of top officers as their replacement.
A statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, through a Director of Information in his office, Willie Bassey, on Monday said the new appointments take immediate effect.
The statement reads: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect,”
Those removed are Babagana Monguno as the National Security Adviser (NSA), Lucky Irabor as the Chief of Defence Staff, Faruk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff, Awwal Gambo as the Chief of Naval Staff, Isiaka Amao as Chief of Air Staff, and Alkali Usman as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
The replacement for the sacked service chiefs are former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser (NSA).
Other new appointed officers are Maj. Gen. C.G. Musa, now the Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. T. A. Lagbaja, now the Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral E. A. Ogalla, now the Chief of Naval Staff; AVM H.B. Abubakar, now the Chief of Air Staff; DIG Kayode Egbetokun, now the Acting Inspector-General of Police; and Maj. Gen. E.P.A. Undiandeye, now the Chief of Defense Intelligence.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Adeniyi Adewale as the Acting Comptroller General of Customs. He takes over from Hameed Ali.
The statement further reads: “It is to be noted that the appointed Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and the Comptroller General of Customs are to act in their positions, pending their confirmation in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
