Armed men have reportedly abducted an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Ibrahim Oyinlade, on his farm at Asolo Camp in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
After seizing the victim, who is the Chief Imam of Uso, the gunmen were said to have led him away to an unknown destination.
Pleading anonymity, a family source said the victim’s abductors have reached out to the family but they were yet to ask for ransom.
He said: “They contacted the family shortly after they kidnapped him, informing the family that he was with them but they didn’t demand ransom yet. But the family has reported the matter at the Uso Police Division.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said police men and members of the vigilante were already combing nearby forest in search of the victim.
She said: “At about 6.00pm today (Saturday), a report was made at Uso Divisional headquarters, that the Chief Iman of USO went to his farm in the morning and did not return, he was later traced to the farm by his people, they saw his phone and his vehicle intact but couldn’t find the man, the DPO and his men with local vigilantes are currently in the bush to trace the whereabouts of the man.”
