An armed gang on Sunday night shot dead an hotel owner, Kayode Akinyemi, and kidnapped his friend simply identified as Ori in Kwara State.
It was learnt that Olushila Ojo, the manager of the facility, the 16 Hour Hotel located in Alomilaya, Ganmo in Ifelodun Local Government Area, a community of about five kilometers from Ilorin, was shot and injured by the armed men.
It was also learnt that the gunmen were shooting as soon as they got to the hotel and after killing the owner, his friend who paid hima visit was reporukkdnapped and whisked away to an unknown location.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command through its spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident.
In a statement on Monday, Okasanmi, said: “A group of gunmen invaded a hotel named 16 Hour Hotel, Alomilaya area of Ganmo, Ilorin, shot indiscriminately, killing the owner of the hotel, one Kayode Akinyemi ‘m’ aged 47 years, while his manager named Olushila Ojo ‘m’ was seriously injured.
“A friend of the owner of the hotel, one Ori ‘m’, who was with him on the day of the incident was abducted. Immediately after the incident, the gunmen were said to have disappeared into the bush before policemen arrived at the scene. They also injured manager of the hotel, who was rushed to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was receiving treatment.
“The state Police Command’s tactical team in conjunction with vigilante and hunters have since been mobilised to the scene to comb the surrounding bushes for possible rescue of the victim and arrest of the hoodlums.
“The corpse of the hotel owner, who was the victim of the invasion, had been deposited in the mortuary of the General Hospital, Ilorin for autopsy.”
