Unknown assailants have killed an 80-year old woman on her farm in Ondo State.
The octogenarian, whose identity could not be verified, was said to have been declared missing since last Wednesday when she did not return home from where she had gone to farm.
But her corpse was found on Friday in the bush around Costain, a small community, in Odigbo Local Government Area of state, in a manner that she might have been sexually violated before she was killed.
Pleading for anonymity, a source in the community alleged that the old woman was raped to death, “particularly in the position in which her corpse was discovered.
He spoke further: “There were cases of rape in this community in recent times. And this development has prevented most women in the community from going to the farm alone.
“A man called Sunday, who is a popular palm wine tapper within the community, has been apprehended by some youths and handed over to the police after the mobile phone of the deceased elderly woman was found on him.
“And the man during police investigation was said to have revealed that the old woman was attacked and killed by herdsmen.”
Meanwhile, the state police command is yet to confirm or brief the newsmen in the incident.
