Men of the Ondo State Police Command have reportedly arrested three suspects for allegedly killing a naval officer in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects allegedly attacked the naval officer simply identified as Akingbohunmi on Monday during an argument with a commercial motorcyclist popularly called ‘Okada rider’.
Akingbohunmi was said to have been rushed to the hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
Immediately after the incident, Idoani community leaders were said to have visited the Naval School where the deceased was attached in Imeri community promised to produce those involved in the incident within 24 hours.
True to their promise, a search party set up to track the those involved in the attack by the leaders apprehended some of the suspects in various locations within and outside the community.
A source within the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “One of the suspects was apprehended on his way to the Oka Akoko community, in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state, while he was trekking to the town to escape arrest while one other suspect was arrested at his house.”
The source also disclosed that many male adults have fled the town after the incident to avoid being arrested by the police and they are yet to return to the community.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami, has confirmed arrest of the suspects, saying: “Three of the suspects have been arrested and we are still on the trail of three others involved in the incident. The suspects will be transferred to the state headquarters soon.”
