The three policemen captured in a viral video flogging a man on a highway in Rivers State have been arrested.
In the video clip, the man was flogged with a stick and slapped in the presence of a woman suspected to be his wife by on of the three officers carrying a rifle.
Confirming the policemen’s arrest in a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the officers have been moved to Abuja to face a disciplinary action at the Police headquarters.
Adejobi, who described the officers’ action as barbaric, said the erring policemen are attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Rivers State Police Command.
Though their identities were not mentioned, he stated: “These men have been arrested, and their commander will personally bring (them) to the Force Headquarters tomorrow, Tuesday for further actions. They are 3 in number, attached to RRS, Rivers State. Their action does not portray the police in a good light at all.
“You will see the evidence tomorrow. They will be at the Force headquarters and our actions will be made public. There is no place in our law, or act or training manual or curriculum where slapping or flogging is listed as a measure of arrest or applying minimum force as stipulated by law.”
