Two commercial motorcyclists, Chimaobi Anyim Kalu (25) and David Ogwo Orji (21), are in police net for allegedly killing a nursing mother, Chihurumnaya Udeh, and selling off her 11-month old baby in Abia State.
The Abia State Police Commissioner, Janet Agbede, in a statement, said after luring her to Merry Home Hotels located at Ogbor Hill region in Aba on April 15, 2022, the suspects stabbed the victim to death in the neck with a broken glass cup and sold her baby for N150,000.
She said: “The suspects, identified as Chimaobi Anyim Kalu aged 25 and David Ogwo Orji aged 21, conspired and killed Chihurumnaya Udeh and absconded with her 11-month old child.
“The suspects lured unsuspecting woman to her death at the Merry Home Hotels.They drugged her before she was murdered.
“After murdering the woman, they fled with the baby, who they eventually sold off for N150,000.
“But on discovering the dead body of the woman, the proprietor of the hotel reported to the police that the corpse of an unidentified female with a sharp cut on her neck was found in one of the hotel rooms.
“When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the suspects had fled but were apprehended between May 15th and 16th, 2022.
“And in the suspects’ confessional statements, they admitted to administering a drug, which was a blend of yoghurt mixed with eight piriton tablets, on the victim.
“They said they killed the woman when she started feeling dizzy and was unconscious after drinking the yoghurt. They said she was stabbed in the neck with a broken glass cup.
“They also admitted to selling her baby for N150,000, which was split evenly between the two of them.”
The police boss said investigation has started to arrest two other suspects, a man and a woman, on the run in order to rescue and recover the stolen 11-month-old baby.
