Youths set Fulani settlement in Ogun ablaze over woman’s abduction

Irate youths have reportedly set abalze a Fulani settlement in Iraye village, Sagamu, Ogun State.

The youths on Monday burnt down the settlement after accusing the some Fulani herdsmen of abducting a woman, resident in the village. on Sunday.

Before abducting the woman on Sunday, the residents of Iraye village had always accused Fulani settlers as responsible for the spate of kidnappings in the area.

During the incident, it was gathered that one Fulani was seriously injured and many other Fulanis in the area fled to safety.

A resident of the village, Kunle Ajayi, said the abducted woman was yet to be released.

He said: “We are yet to see the woman and the Fulani guys have been fingered in various kidnappings in Ogun. We don’t want them again.”

Meanwhile, a leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Ogun State, Abdulmumin Ibrahim, confirmed the attack.

He disclosed that five houses belonging to the Fulanis were razed, saying: “It is true that they attacked our people’s settlement but nobody died. About five houses were burnt in the settlement and we have asked those affected to make formal reports at Sagamu Police Station.”

Also, the Ogun State Police Command through its spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident but said normalcy had been restored in the area.

Oyeyemi, in a statement, said: “The residents heard that some Fulani herdsmen kidnapped someone in her farm in Iraye and they went there to set ablaze a Fulani settlement in the area. A Fulani man was injured and he is currently in the hospital but normalcy has been restored.”
