UNIPORT lecturer, Gilbert Ayuwo, kidnapped

 

A lecturer in the Linguistics and Communications Department of the University of Port Harcourt, (UNIPORT) Dr. Jones Gilbert Ayuwo, has been kidnapped.

The spokesperson of the university, Sam Kpenu, disclosed that the lecturer was kidnapped on Sunday night by unknown gunmen on Andoni-Opobo-Ogoni road.

In a statement, Kpenu said: “The incident happened towards the axis of Ogoni. There were three other occupants in the car.

“The kidnappers forcefully ejected the other occupants in the car and forcefully took Dr. Ayuwo into their own car.

“The kidnappers didn’t abandon Ayuwo’s car.They drove away Ayuwo’s car. Since that yesterday till date we have not heard anything from Ayuwo or his kidnappers.”

Kpenu, who said the lecturer’s whereabout is unknown, also disclosed that the university management had contacted the family of the victim.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that lecturer had gone to Andoni where they went for a Bible translation from English Language to Andoni, when he and other theree occupants in his car, were ambushed.

The three occupants, who are staff of the Rivers State Television (RSTV), were reportedly ejected from the car by the kidnappers and his car also driven away.

The RSTV staff, who claimed their phones and money were forcefully taken away from them by the kidnappers, said they had reported the case police in Bori.
