As Secondus, Fayose, others receive Ondo Deputy Governor
The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, and former Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on Monday called for re-deploymemt of the Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, Bolaji Salami, ahead of October 10 governorship election in the state.
They said it was imperative that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, remove Salami from Ondo State before the election to redeem the image of the police in the country.
They spoke in Akure, the Ondo State capital where they have received the state deputy governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, into the PDP.
Secondus condemned the altercation between the deputy governor and the police boss on Saturday evening, when the former was barred from moving out of his official residence in the Government House by the latter.
According to Secondus, the scenario was an eye opener for the PDP ahead of the forthcoming poll in the state.
Speaking further with other leaders of the party in attendance, Secondus warned the police commissioner against further interference in partisan politics.
He said: “Election is for people to choose their leaders, so, we want to advise our security agencies that enough is enough.
“They should be at their duty post to make sure that everyone is secured and not to assist the All Progressive Congress (APC).
“What happened in Ondo State on Saturday evening was an eye opener and we want to warn the CP to stop all this mess.”
He assured the aspirants and members of the PDP in the state that the party will conduct a free, fair and credible primary election.
“Our coming here today is not to endorse a particular aspirant. It is for the generality of the people. I will charge all the aspirants to team up to reclaim Ondo State from the APC,” he advised.
Also, the former Ekiti State governor, Fayose said Ondo State would return to the PDP fold after the October governorship election.
He said: “If someone has always been stealing one day he will be caught. The APC has been stealing in Nigeria, they stole in Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Kogi and everywhere.
“This man sitting here (Agboola Ajayi), though in APC, knew he was in a wrong address. We will all come around to take our pound of flesh through ballot to recapture Ondo State.”
Earlier, Ondo State deputy governor had described Bolaji Salami as an “APC Police Commissioner.”
He said: “If what happened on Saturday did not happen, we wouldn’t have known that the man was planted to rig election in the state. But I warn him that he should not come here to rig election. If he tries it the people will resist him.
“The people at the other side know that our exit from the APC will give victory to the PDP. I am back to my home. We have come to add value to this party. We are ready for any intimidation.”
