The Osun State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, on Tuesday donated food items worth millions of naira to residents of Ayedaade and Irewole Local Government areas of the state.
He made the donation to alleviate the suffering of the poor residents of the two council areas during the lockdown of the state by Governor Gboyega Oyetola to curb spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
Also, the commissioner’s wife, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, gave out 100 of 2.5kg gas cylinders each to women in Ayedaade and Irewole Local Governments of the state.
The commissioner, who during the first two-week lockdown supported about 2,000 indigent families in Ayedade and Irewole local governments, said the relief materials were for poor people in the councils, irrespectives of their party memberships and affliations.
Handing over the relief materials, which include bags of rice, vegetable oil, beans, gaari and bags of Semovita to the local government authorities, Oyebamiji commended the residents of the areas for complying with the stay at home directive of the state government.
Represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Adebisi Oyegbade, the Commissioner described the fight against the Pandemic as a war which must be jointly fought, assuring the people that the Gboyega Oyetola administration is capable to curtail the spread of the deadly virus in the state.
He further assured the people that the state government is doing everything humanly possible to mitigate the harsh effects of the pandemic.
While also commending the people of the state for compliance with the state lockdown order, the Ikire born politician stated that their patience and understanding have shown that they are ready to partner the government to acheive the best for the state.
Oyebamiji said: “As I commend our people for their compliance with the government’s directive in the fight against Coronavirus, I want to reiterate that COVID-19 is no respecter of anybody, it is no respecter of colour or race. We all have to be weary.
“The lockdown order of the state government is to help tackle the virus and not to inflict pain on anyone, this is a sacrifice we must all pay so that we can all go back to the kind of lives we were used to, we want this to be over as soon as possible and that is why government is taking all these measures.
“The food items we are distributing today is just a token in our efforts and resolve to reduce the suffering of the people as a result of the lockdown. We are not doing this based on party affiliation, it is for everybody no matter the political party you belong to.
“I must not fail to commend the efforts of our amiable governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, since this pandemic started. His efforts, no doubt, have helped in curtailing the spread of the deadly virus in the State of Osun.”
However, the Commissioner advised the people to continue ro observe personal hygiene, reminding them that the culture of regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers and protective anose masks must not be abandoned.
The beneficiaries thanked the state government for taking measures to curtail the spread of the virus in Osun.
Mr. Muideen Mustapha and Mrs. Toyin Olaoye described the Commissioner as God sent.
