The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare Ogidigan II, has sacked the presiding priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao, for violating the long standing rules of the church.
Omo N’Oba approved the sack of the priest after accusing him of non-compliance with ancient long tradition of Benin.
In a joint decision, Oba of Benin as the traditional head of the church with the elders’ committee and top palace chiefs insisted that the priest’s sack was necessary to restore sanity to the church.
The secretary of Benin Traditional Council (BTC), Frank Irabor, in a statement, confirmed the removal of the former priest, saying his sack would bring lasting peace to the Benin church.
Asking Okao to handover property of the church in his possession to the head Iweguae Chief Esere, he warned him not to engage in any financial transaction onbehalf the church.
