OAU dismisses lecturer, Adebayo Mosobalaje, over sexual harassment

The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State on Tuesday dismissed a lecturer, Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje, over sexual harassment against a female student.

Mosobalaje, a senior lecturer in the Department of English Language, Faculty of Arts, was found guilty by the Joint Committee of Council and Senate of the institution, according to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju.

Olarewaju on Tuesday disclosed that the university took the decision to dismiss Mosobalaje during its last sitting on Monday.

The statement read: “The Joint Committee of Council and Senate, which investigated the case of sexual harassment against Dr. Adebayo Mosobalaje, unambiguously declared zero tolerance to sexual harassment. The OAU management, almost two weeks ago, had inaugurated an anti-sexual harassment policy.”

Olarewaju said the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, reiterated the commitment of his administration to uphold the “zero tolerance policy” for sexual harassment and other social vices.

He added that the chairman of the university council, Owelle Oscar Udoji, has also pledged to support policies that promote mutual co-existence among all members of the university community.
