An unidentified pregnant woman has reportedly been killed by an hippopotamus woman on River Benue in Makurdi.
The victim was said to have been killed by the straying animal on Tuesday under the old bridge of the river.
The deceased, according to an eye witness account, was among the traders selling vegetables and who had gone to replenish her stocks at a nearby riverine market when she was attacked and killed by the wild animal.
An engine boat, in which the woman was traveling reportedly developed a fault and was transferred with other traders to a wooden boat that was latter attacked by the hippopotamus on the shores of the river.
The wooden boat was said to have been broken into pieces after the attack and the woman got drowned before a search party recovered her body the following day which was Wednesday.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Sewuese Anene, told the newsmen she was yet to be briefed about the incident.
