Gunmen on Friday night attacked residents of Rigasa village, a community on suburb of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The community is located along the new road which connects Kaduna Airport and Rigasa train station.
During the attack, a resident, Auwal Rabiu, was killed and another resident was shot in the leg before an unidentified person was abducted by the bandits.
Police team deployed to dislodge them was said to have engaged the bandits in a gun battle for hours.
Operational vehicle belonging to Rigasa Police station was vandalized by the gunmen, who riddled it with bullets, smashing its glass and bursting its tyres before the troops came to chase the bandits into the bush.
Narrating the incident, residents of Rigasa told newsmen that they heard gunshots in the night as security agents battled the gunmen.
One of the residents, Haruna Ibrahim, said the incident occurred around 9.00pm, confirming that the gunmen had attacked and damaged a police patrol vehicle.
He said: “The vehicle belonged to Rigasa Police station. The gunmen riddled the police patrol van it with bullets. They also smashed the glass and burst the vehicle’s tyres before the troop arrived the scene to chase the bandits away.”
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has not confirmed the incident.
