Gunmen on early Monday morning attacked and shot at Ilobu country residence of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Labour Party (LP) Osun State governorship candidate, Lasun Yussuff.
A family source disclosed that one of the windows of the former lawmaker’s residence at the Oke-Ima, Ilobu, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State was shattered with bullets.
Preferring not to be named, he further disclosed that gunmen attacked the building around 2.00am and were shooting but were repelled by the former lawmaker’s security guards.
Meanwhile, the Force Headquarters’ spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the the Osun State Police Command had been ordered to investigate the attack, saying the Divisional Police Officer for Ilobu had visited the scene.
Also in a swift reaction, the state governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has denied the allegation by Yusuff on a radio programme in Osogbo on Monday that he sent the gunmen to eliminate him.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, said Yusuff was no threat to his principal’s second term ambition.
Omipidan, in a terse statement, described the allegation by Yussuff as regrettable.
