Four feared killed in Maiduguri as insurgents, troops engaged in gun battle

 

Explosion on Tuesday evening rocked communities surrounding the University of Maiduguri, killing four fear persons.

It was gathered that there was gun battle between Boko Haram insurgents and the military troops in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Though it could not be ascertained the number of causlities but it was learnt that the troops were trying to repel attacks of the insurgents that were bent on

The situation created fear and tension among the residents of some of the communities, including Mairi, Kaleri and Constain they all were said to be running in different directions to escape being caught in a cross fire.

Some of these communities and settlements are sharing their fences with the university, right behind the military trenches.

Details of the incident were sektchy but investigation revealed that it was over a year that such an attack on the university and the surrounding settlements had happened last.

A residents of Kaleri, who narrated the scene, said explosions were being detonated within the area.

He said: “People are just running in no direction. The explosions were coming from our area. What I cannot say is if people have died.”
