Cross River governor, Ben Ayade, defects to APC

The Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has defected to ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Announcing his defection on Thursday morning in a meeting with six APC governors who visited him at the Government House, Ayade said: “Cross River needs to connect with the centre.”

Ayade was visited by his colleagues, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, Simon Lalong of Plateau state and Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state, who had arrived in Calabar on Wednesday evening.

Ayade, who is the second PDP governor to defect to APC after Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, State, is running his second term in office.

Also being rumoured to be preparing to dump the PDP for APC is Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State.
