No fewer than 15 persons were killed on Friday when bandits suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents attacked the convoy of the Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum.
The insurgents allegedly laid an ambush for the governor and his convoy enroute Monguno and Baga areas of the state.
Those reportedly killed during the attack on the governor’s convoy include eight policemen, three soldiers and four members of Civilian Joint Task Force.
It was gathered that the governor was on his way through Maiduguri to Baga camps to prepare for the planned return of internally displaced persons when the incident happened.
An informed source, who preferred not to be named, said the victims of the attack were mainly security men attached to the governor.
He confirmed that eight persons were killed, including security personnel and civilians, saying the Friday’s incident was the second attack on the governor’s convoy in recent times around Baga.
