The Aragbiji of Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, has condemned stoning to death and burning of a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Deborah Samuel, by Muslim extremists, who accused her of insulting Prophet Mohammed.

In a statement by his Press Officer, Abdulkareem Opeyemi Mubarak, the Osun first class monarch insisted there was no justification for Deborah’s grusome murder.
Oba Olabomi said hiding under “blasphemy against Islam or Prophet Mohammed” by misguided elements and religious fantastics should be condemned in all ramifications.
Describing Deborah’s grusome murder over an alleged blasphemy as an unIslamic act, the Aragbiji also condemned the protest by some youths in Sokoto, demanding release of suspects arrested for the killing, adding that many businesses and innocent residents suffered untold hardship during the protest.
The monarch said: “Even as many Nigerians, including Islamic scholars and groups condemn the dastardly act of jungle justice, it is unfortunate that some mindless bigots have the temerity to defend the criminal act.
“I call on law enforcement agencies to fish out other collaborators and bring all of them to justice. I also appeal to the Nigerian youths to shun all acts of criminality under the guise of religion. All the perpetrators of Deborah’s murder must be made to face the law of the land.
“Killing of fellow human being unlawfully has no place in Islam. This issue must be treated as a very heinous criminal act and the law of the land must take its cause.”
Oba Olabomi advised Nigerians, irrespective of their religious faiths to exercise restraint, be calm and ensure peaceful coexistence among themselves.
He also charged the law enforcement agents to ensure those responsible for Deborah’s death are brought to justice.
