Benin Republic court orders Sunday Igboho to remain in cell, releases wife…Hearing continues tomorrow

A Benin Republic Court D’Appeal in Cotonou has ordered that the Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo known as Sunday Igboho, be returned to the cell pending hearing hearing on his extradition tomorrow Friday July 23, 2021.

However, the court ruled that his accompanying wife, Ropo, arrested with him as they were about taking a flight to Germany on Monday night at the nation’s airport be released.

Hearing into Igboho’s immigration-related offences continues tomorrow Friday.

It would be recalled that the Department of State Services (DSS) on July 1 raided the Yourba activist’s Soka, Ibadan, Oyo State residence, where two of his strong associates were killed and twelve others arrested.

The DSS during the raid, which was carried out in the wee hours, claimed to have recovered some arms and therefore, accused him of stockpiling weapons and subsequently declared him wanted.

Since the incident, Igboho has been at large until Monday night when he was arrested with his accompanying wife by Beninoire security forces at Benin Republic Airport in Cotonou while trying to fly out to Germany.
