The Awesome God, a platform for praising God annually for his mercies and blessings, on Sunday in Osogbo, Osun State capital organized a praise worship to God for his mercies and blessings in the past months.
The convener of Awesome God, Mrs. Aderonke Funmi Abokede, daughter of the late Iyalode of Osogbo, Chief Mrs. Benice Alake Kolade, at the event held at in Osogbo on Sunday, said she was inspired to start the programme in 2015 in appreciation of God’s awesomeness.
According to her, the praise worship was designed to unite worshippers of Christian faith from all denominations across the state to celebrate God faithfulness and mercies to them over the year.
She said: “The only reason for the programme was to appreciate God for His love and faithfulness in the lives of the participants. We decided to come up with this every year to give God back all the praises and adoration for what He has done over our lives in the past months and which He is still doing and will do months ahead.”
Also, the Presiding Pastor of the Chapel of Mercy International Church, Okinni in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State, Victor Bajulaiye, asked the participants at the event to always praise God in all situations.
He said: “When God is praised he moves mightily in our midst and he shows us his awesomeness. We must learn to praise him at all times to enjoy his peace and blessings.”
Speaking on the efficacy of praises, Bajulaiye explained that God inhabits in the praises of His people, showing His mighty hands amidst true worshippers.
He noted that praises can be used to change ugly situations, thereby bringing God’s presence down as being cited in the Holy Bible in the Book of 11 Chron. 20.
“I want to believe that praise is key to changing situation in peoples lives and that brings down the Glory of God. Instead of murmuring and complaining, a true worshipper should get involved in the habit of giving praises,” he said.
Bajulaiye, who is also the Director, Politics and Governance, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Osun Chapter, advised Christians to “arm themselves” with Permanent Voter’s Cards ( PVCs) to enable them vote in the forthcoming general elections.
He said that rather than siting down and complaining about nation’s challenges, Christians should get involved in the electoral process.
He explained that a voter’s card is the only veritable tool through which an electorate’s voice can be heard, and not be disenfranchised,
He said: “We need to encourage others to get their permanent voter’s cards at the nearest office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), before the general elections in order for them to be able to cast their votes.
The cleric, also called on Nigerians to keep praying for “our leaders”, including President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, for wisdom to rule lead the people aright.
He continued: “The Bible states that we should pray for our leaders and that we must support them to succeed and our land shall be blessed.
The convener’s husband; Mr. Oladeji Sunday Abokede, and her sibling; Tunji Jayeola, commended the participants for the zeal to be an instrument of praise in His vineyard, adding that the mystery behind praise can never be overemphasized.
