Armed men kill 30 in Zamfara communities

Armed men have killed about thirty residents of Askawa and Gidan Dannunu communities in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Many residents reportedly sustained severe injuries during the incident.

It was learnt that the gun men on Sunday stormed the communities on several motorcycles and shot started sporadically to scare the people.

The gunmen were said to have carted away many cattle and looted food items after setting a truck and some houses ablaze.

A resident of the area, who witnessed the attacks and preferred not to be named, said the security operatives deployed to repel the attack were engaged and overpowered by the bandits.

He claimed to have counted at least 29 corpses and participated in the burial of no fewer than 11 persons that were killed by the bandits.

He also disclosed that the Head of Kwata community just returned from the market and was among those killed by the gunmen.

The Public Relations Officer for Zamfara State Police Command, Mohammad Shehu, promised to furnish newsmen with information on the incident in due course.
