Armed men on Thursday night attacked another tertiary institution in Kaduna State, the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Zaria Local Government Area.
The gunmen, who gained entrance into the school, after breaking one of the gates, reportedly killed one student and critically injured another while they kidnapped five persons – two lecturers and three students.
Narrating the incident, an eye witness, who preferred annonymity, said: “It happened around 10 or to 11pm yesterday. We heard the gunshots but did not know what happened in the school because we were behind the school’s compound.
“As of this morning, we got information that two academic staff were abducted; one Mr. Habila Nasai and Mallam Adamu Shika. Also, the wife and two children of Mallam Ahmed Abdullahi were kidnapped but later released this morning.
“Three unidentified students were also kidnapped. One of those kidnapped is Ahmed, he is in HND II Statistics. Two students were shot by the gunmen, one died while the other is receiving treatment.”
Speaking further about the security challenges in the area, he said: “Last year, the wife of a director was abducted in the school. It was a low key situation. But she was released.
“We have always had insecurity situations in the school. It was so bad that students staying on campus were told to leave because of regular and repeated attacks.”
