Armed men ambush, abduct Eze Ndigbo of Ifon in Ondo

 

Armed men have ambushed and abducted the Eze Ndigbo of Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Donatus Okereke, on Ifon-Owo Highway.

The gunmen reportedly laid an ambush for Chief Okereke, who is a popular businessman in Ifon, and seized him at the area where the late of Ifon monarch, Oba Israel Adeusi, was attacked and killed last year.

Victim’s car

A community leader and Secretary to the Regent of Ifon, Olaniyi Eni Olotu, said the victim was forced out of his vehicle and led into into the bush after the gunmen had shot sporadically into the air to scare people away.

He disclosed that the gunmen took away large sum of money from the victim’s vehicle.

He said the operatives of the Ondo State Police Command and men of Amotekun Corps are already on the trail of the perpetrators to apprehend them md rescue the victim.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said the victim’s vehicle was left in the middle of the road.

She said that Okereke’s phone number had been switched off since Monday.

She said: “It’s actually a case of suspected kidnapping because bullet shells had been found where they saw the victim’s vehicle. The DPO within the axis has mobilised his men to search for him.”
