Police operatives in Anambra State have reportedly arrested a vigilance group leader of Ojoto community and two others accused of abducting and killing of a commercial tricycle operator, Christian Onah.
A senior officer at the Ogidi Police Division, who would not want his name in print, said suspects were arrested on Wednesday.
He also disclosed that police detectives are on the trail of other suspects linked to the crime.
The 25-year old deceased, who hails from Ovoko community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to be residing in Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A neighbour reportedly raised an alarm when Onah did not return home after going out to work on May 28, 2023.
The deceased was declared missing after the case had been reported to the police.
The neighbour, who pleaded not to be named, said: “When Onah’s whereabouts remained unknown for some days, the owner of the tricycle he was using for commercial purposes on hire purchase engaged the services of a security tracker and it led to the arrest of a man in possession of the missing tricycle.
“When the man was interrogated he confessed to buying the tricycle from the Ojoto Community Vigilance Group and took the police operatives to the place.
“When the police arrested the vigilante official that sold the tricycle to him, he subsequently mentioned the vigilante commander as the one who masterminded the abduction and subsequent killing of Onah. He said they threw his corpse into a river in the Mmili John Ojoto community.”
The deceased’s father, Emmanuel, is demanding justice, saying the suspects linked to the killing of his son had refused to disclose the whereabouts of his corpse.
He insisted that police authorities should fish out all those involved in his son’s death.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ikenga Tochukwu, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
