The authorities of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (Igbariam campus) in Anambra State have confirmed mysterious deaths of three female students in the hostel of the institution.
The lifeless bodies of the students identified as Obidiaso Chidera (200-level Political Science), Mercy (200-level Pharmacy), and Emmanuella (200-level Business Administration), were reportedly found dead on Saturday in their hostel.
The cause of their deaths could not immediately be verified but the victims were said to have mistakenly locked themselves in their room from outside.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, in a statement, said the school authorities had reported the incident to the police, adding that the security operatives are investigating the matter and will make their findings public at the appropriate time.
Describing the incident as a shocking, the statement read: “The university management received with rude shock the news of the death of three of its students. At the moment, the date, time and manner of their death are still uncertain.
“However, the security operatives are investigating the matter and at the appropriate time, they will make the findings public.
“However, the university is unaware of any of her students in the second-year class and above are still within the university environment. This is because the institution closed on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, after the second-semester examination and will resume on October 1st, 2022.”
