One person on Saturday was recovered dead and unspecified number of people trapped as a three storey-building collapsed on Lagos Island, Lagos.
The house at 4 Alayaki Lane, Lagos Island, reportedly caved in during a heavy rainfall.
The officials of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos Fire Service, and other emergency agencies were at the scene to rescue the victims.
According to the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, two people had been rescued alive while he said one dead body had been evacuated, with many people still trapped under the rubbles.
Addressing journalists, he said: “It was discovered that the building had been captured by the LASBCA District Office and served with all Statutory Notices, Sealed at District and Central Enforcement Level.
“Further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at the weekends.
“An unconfirmed number of people are still trapped inside the building. Two people have been rescued alive while another was recovered dead. Search and Rescue operations ongoing. Further updates to follow.”
