Olofa throws weight behind Amotekun...Says FG must support intiatiave to safeguard lives, property
The Olofa of Offa in Kwara State, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, has thrown his weight behind the creation of the South West Security Netwwork codenamed Amotekun by the governors of the geo-political zone.
He said the peculiarities of Nigeria's security architecture has made it incumbent on communities to protect their domains.
The first class traditional ruler spoke with reporters during his courtesy visit to the new Alapomu of Apomu in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Kayode Afolabi, who is presently in seclusion as part of traditional rites before his coronation.
He maintained that every effort to safeguard lives and property within the ambit of law of the land is necessary and therefore must be supported by the Federal Government.
The monarch, who insisted that security is the business of every Nigerian, said that community-driven security arrangement has been in existence for long among different communities in Nigeria.
He said the sole aim of any local security arrangement is to complement the Federal Government's efforts towards securing lives and property of Nigerians.
Oba Gbadamosi said that the suspicison about the creation of the regional security outfit in some sections of the soceity is unnecessary.
He said the concept of 'Amotekun' is just a new nomenclature to give general identity to community security arrangement in the South West, adding that such initiative deserves accolades.
The Olofa explained that the initiative by governors of the South West geo-political zone is to provide a complimentary security arrangement which he said will signal a renewed consciousness for responsive governance.
He said: "I don't really see any need for the ongoing furore about Amotekun, to me, this is just a new name to identify community efforts in the South West in the area of local security architecture.
"Sincerely, Amotekun has been in existence for long, virtually all communities in the South West have certain security arrangement to secure their environment as a complement to Federal police and other security agencies.
"We have the same security arrangement in my domain, in which I bought two operational vehicles for them to monitor our community and provide relevant information about suspicious movements to the police. I believe it is pertinent to all worked together as a people and see to the success of this noble initiative for the good of all."
However, Oba Gbadamosi, who praised the new Alapomu for his sterling leadership qualities, said the new monarch is his a long reliable friend and a worthy ambassador of the town.
He added that the personality of the new monarch would attract development to Apomu and its environs.
