MEDIOCRE MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, OSUN SENATORIAL CANDIDATE ADVISES ELECTORATE

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Osun Central senatorial district, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, has advised the electorate not to allow the mediocre to gain an in-road into the National Assembly.

He said now is the time to ensure that “patriotic and quality” Nigerians are allowed to represent the people.

Speaking at a news programme of the Osun State chapter of the Association of Veteran Journalists tagged “Frontliners” in Osogbo, Basiru, an immediate past Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, said since the people have submitted their sovereignty to their representatives in the   parliament they deserve to have the best representation.

According to him, the executive and legislature must have smooth working relations if the nation must have growth, adding that the executive arm of government flows from the legislature, where he maintained that the sovereignty of the people lie.

Describing himself as best among the contestants in the senatorial district for lawmaking, Basiru said his academic and public service backgrounds have positioned him to hit the ground running.

He said: “The panacea for national growth is for the National Assembly to be populated with quality, selfless and patriotic Nigerians rather than people with self aggrandizement and primordial sentiments. Lawmaking is a serious business that must not be left in the hands of mediocre and unserious elements. The nation has suffered long enough under development now is the time to allow the best to represent the people.”

He decried spate of defection among the politicians though he admitted that the principles of democracy allows it.

Basiru, who was also former Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, lamented that lack of political ideology among individual politicians, saying for “such individuals it is easy to move from the conservative to the progressive politics as long as they could secure their relevance.”

He said the APC has become a party to beat because of its national spread, demography and structure, assuring that the party will be returned to power at the Centre and in most states of the federation in the forthcoming general elections.

The senatorial candidate said the APC leaders because of their passion and deep understanding of the nation are strategizing all the time to take the economy out of the woods.

He, therefore, advised the people to associate and vote for the political party with good policies and programmes that can provide solutions to myriads of challenges facing the nation. END
